Jen Lee (she/they) is a photographer based in Toronto.
I am a Toronto-based photographer whose work centres on candid and street photography, capturing moments that reflect the evolving dynamics of public spaces and community interactions. Through my lens, I seek to explore themes of belonging, identity, and the quiet narratives unfolding in everyday life. I am deeply invested in using photography as both a storytelling tool and a vehicle for fostering social connection.
As an advocate for community engagement, I collaborate with grassroots organizations and advocacy groups in Toronto to document the stories of growing, evolving communities—strengthened by the people who form them and united by their shared environment. This practice not only informs my artistic vision but also strengthens my commitment to creating art that is socially relevant and accessible. My work aims to reflect the diverse and often overlooked facets of urban life, inviting viewers to reconsider the familiar through fresh perspectives.
My more intimate and ongoing projects involve documenting my family and exploring their connections with both personal histories and the environments they inhabit.
My works have exhibited in the Scarborough Arts' Scarborough’s New View (2020), the Canada Council for the Arts and CBC-funded project The Time Being (2020), the Scarborough Museum's exhibit Awaken Your Senses (winter 2021/22), choa Magazine Volume 3: "Aging in Place" (2022), Worth Gallery’s Worthy Circa 4x4 show (2023), New York Grandmas at North York Central Library (2024), Spectra (2024), and StreetARToronto's "Street Portraits" exhibition (2024).
